Upskilling the workforce
New grants create opportunities for workers and industries
Oregon's Higher Education Coordinating Commission has awarded four workforce development grants to Oregon State University. The projects prioritize creating career opportunities for underserved and marginalized communities in semiconductors, software and web development, geospatial technologies and forest harvesting.
Connecting cables at PacWave
OSU's wave energy test site moves closer to completion
PacWave, the first pre-permitted, utility-scale, grid-connected wave energy test site in the U.S., is nearing the end of the construction phase with the installation of nearly 50 miles of cables completed in October 2024. The site's first wave energy developer is expected in 2025, and the first cable-connected test is expected in 2026.
Delivering flavor without fire
OSU releases "Notta Hotta" and "Mild Things" peppers
Oregon State vegetable breeders have released two mild habaneros that retain the peppers' unique fruity and floral fragrances and flavors but have lower heat levels. Known as "Notta Hotta and "Mild Thing," the peppers should be available at farmers markets next year, along with seeds for home gardeners.
